Ibero-American Institute receives international award for outstanding mediation and networking work
Press release from 10/09/2014
The Ibero-American Institute (IAI) of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is the first German institution to receive the "Premio ASICOM-Universidad de Oviedo". It is being honoured for its outstanding educational and networking work on Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.
Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, says: "The award clearly demonstrates the high international esteem in which the Ibero-American Institute is held. As an interdisciplinary information, research and cultural centre and as a mediator in academic and cultural exchange, it receives the highest recognition."
"It is a special honour for the Ibero-American Institute to be recognised by an international association such as the 'Asociación Iberoamericana de la Comunicación' ASICOM. We would like to thank our staff and all our cooperation partners, sponsors and friends of the IAI," emphasises Barbara Göbel, Director of the Institute. She will receive the prize in the form of a sculpture by Spanish artist Hugo Fontela today, Thursday, at the University of Oviedo (Spain).
The "Asociación Iberoamericana de la Comunicación" ASICOM, together with partners and sponsors such as the Mexican daily magazine "El Universal", is committed to promoting exchange, cooperation and networking in the Ibero-American context. Once a year, ASICOM, together with the University of Oviedo, honours several institutions and individuals for outstanding work in this field. Previous winners include Margarita Zavala, wife of the then Mexican President Felipe Calderón (2011), the Spanish organisation for the blind ONCE and the Mexican journalist Jacobo Zabludovsky (2010).
The Ibero-American Institute (IAI) houses a knowledge archive with the largest European specialist library for the Ibero-American cultural area. It is also a centre of knowledge production, knowledge transfer and cultural translation. The IAI is part of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which, with its museums, libraries, archives and research facilities, is one of the world's most important cultural institutions.
