Relaunch of the website of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation
Press release from 08/28/2013
The completely redesigned and updated website of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (www.preussischer-kulturbesitz.de) went online today. The launch marks an important step towards improving the Foundation's public image.
The SPK's tasks and activities are now more tangible than ever before: mediating and developing, researching and expanding, preserving and restoring its diverse and high-calibre collections. The series of images on the homepage with photographs by Pierre Adenis illustrates the broad scope of the Foundation and its institutions. It now also stands out more clearly as an overall organisation: in many places, the website makes the affiliation of the institutions to the foundation visible. In addition, a location map has been developed for the website and the recently published SPK magazine, which shows the Foundation's institutions and their location in Berlin. On the website, it is linked to information on the respective location.
The content has been restructured and expanded in many places. A more comprehensive menu item in the main navigation has been dedicated to the Humboldt Forum as an important topic. In addition, the website now makes it easier to find contacts for specific topics. The new meta-navigation, which offers quick access to service-orientated sub-pages such as the press and careers sections, also provides greater clarity. The new media centre with image galleries and important documents is also located there and will be continuously expanded.
There are also some technical innovations: RSS feeds keep interested parties up to date with the latest news from the foundation and job vacancies. A download area for press images has been created for journalists. The website is also displayed without any problems on mobile devices: a so-called "responsive design" adapts to different monitor sizes so that users of tablet PCs or mobile phones can also use the website comfortably. Finally, the foundation has paid particular attention to accessibility in the design, programming and preparation of the content in order to enable people with disabilities to use the website. An English-language version is currently being developed.
The basic graphic design of the website was created by the Peter Schmidt Group, which was responsible for the brand development process. DUPLICON, in collaboration with cosmoblonde GmbH, was responsible for the technical realisation and, in the course of this, also for refining the design.
At the same time as the SPK website, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is making the SPK digital portal available, which is being expanded to provide centralised access to the collections of all SPK institutions. SPK digital already includes over 12 million inventory records from all institutions. The portal is constantly being expanded.
The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) are also currently overhauling their website. The relaunch is also due to take place this year.
