New Deputy Director General of the National Museums in Berlin elected

At its meeting today, the Board of Trustees of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK), chaired by Minister of State for Culture Bernd Neumann, unanimously elected Dr Christina Haak as the new Deputy Director General of the National Museums in Berlin - Prussian Cultural Heritage. She will immediately succeed Prof. Dr Günther Schauerte, who will take over as Vice President of the SPK on 1 August 2011. As an art historian with a doctorate and extensive knowledge of modern museum management and art historical practice, she is ideally equipped for her new role.

Dr Christina Haak, born in 1966, has been Head of the Building Department at the Directorate General of the National Museums in Berlin since November 2009, where she was previously responsible for museum development planning. From 2003 to the end of 2008, she headed the staff unit for project management, museum development planning and public relations at the Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel. She began her professional career at the Museum of Communication in Frankfurt am Main, where she organised various temporary exhibitions, among other things.

The National Museums in Berlin comprise 15 collections and four institutes. The Museum Island is the centrepiece of Berlin's museum landscape.
