New: SPK magazine published for the first time
Press release from 09/11/2009
"Discover the SPK" is what Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, calls for in the editorial of the first SPK magazine, which was recently published. He says: "With the new magazine, we want to show the full diversity of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. It is a vibrant place of art and culture, education, science and research."
"SPK. Magazine of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Magazine of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation" will regularly present the activities of the foundation and its five institutions. The bilingual magazine presents facts, events, stories and background information from the Foundation's cosmos. It also gives a voice to the people who use their expertise and creativity to oversee the foundation's numerous tasks and projects. The aim is to illustrate the diversity of the museums, libraries, archives and research institutes united under the umbrella of the SPK as well as the size and importance of the foundation as an overall organisation.
In the first issue, Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK since March 2008, explains his goals and the future prospects for the Foundation. Barbara Schneider-Kempf tells the eventful story of the original score of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which she looks after as Director General of the Berlin State Library. The numerous activities of the SPK as part of the TOPOI Cluster of Excellence are also discussed, as is the New Museum on Museum Island, which has been restored by David Chipperfield Architects. Christina Weiss explains why she is so passionate about her role as Chairwoman of the Friends of the National Gallery. And a number of questions are answered - such as what is so secret about the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage.
The magazine will start with a print run of 10,000 copies. Its second issue is planned for spring 2010. It is primarily aimed at decision-makers from politics, business, culture and science as well as friends, sponsors and partners of the foundation. It is part of Hermann Parzinger's initiative to strengthen the public perception of the SPK and improve its income situation through new approaches and structures. In addition to the magazine, the development of a sustainable brand architecture and a contemporary corporate design as well as the establishment of a professional fundraising structure should contribute to this.
The magazine was realised and designed in collaboration with the agency muehlhaus & moers kommunikation gmbh. Deutsche Post AG is the mailing partner. In its launch phase, the magazine is also supported by the Kuratorium Museumsinsel, an association of 16 leading companies.
Interested parties can download the SPK magazine from the website of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation from 15 September 2009. The printed edition can be ordered from the online shop for 4.50 euros. If you have any questions, suggestions or criticism, please contact us by e-mail.
