The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation's most successful year to date draws to a close

Press release from 12/21/2007

At the end of the 50th year of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Germany's largest cultural institution can look back on the most successful year in its history. With an increase of around 20 per cent compared to the previous year, the number of visitors to the National Museums in Berlin rose to over 5 million in 2007. In the year of the humanities and as an active partner of the universities (for example within the framework of the "Ancient World" excellence cluster), the museums strengthened their profile as a scientific institution. The State Library recorded almost 2 million loans (2006: 1.72) and over 13 million accesses to its online catalogue StaBiKat. The library is in a phase of successful conversion to a digital library with new organisational forms and services. The Ibero-American Institute has a record number of acquisitions to report and the Institute's acquisition of third-party funds has also risen to an all-time high. With its new product BMS online (Bibliography of Music Literature), the State Institute for Music Research has obviously hit the bull's eye among experts. This is shown by the access figures for this virtual specialised library. Like the Geheime Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the other institutions of the Foundation have also significantly increased their importance as research organisations through their publications.

The Foundation will provide more detailed information in the course of January 2008.
