"Collecting - Donating - Supporting. Jewish patrons in German society"

Press release from 11/30/2006

On 11 December 2006, starting at 10 a.m. (all day) at the Kunstgewerbemuseum - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin PK Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz, 10785 Berlin

Not least against the backdrop of the current debate on the restitution of
artworks, it seems appropriate to further research and publicise the enormous contributions made by Jewish patrons to cultural and social life in Germany. Names such as that of James Simon should be more firmly anchored in the public consciousness. The symposium will highlight the historical traces, remind us of what we owe to the patrons and shed light on how we deal with our heritage and our fragile history today.

It is an event organised by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Koordinierungsstelle für Kulturgutverluste and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, supported by the Jewish Museum Berlin. Please find more detailed information on the programme in the attachment.

I would be delighted to welcome you to this symposium. I am very interested in the media response.

Yours sincerely
Klaus-Dieter Lehmann
President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation
