The Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage and what is collected there for state bankruptcy

Press release from 02/21/2006

Whether the institution also stands for secrecy and concealment will soon become clear. Quite secret, on the other hand, and very publicly, the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage (GStA PK) presents an exhibition every three years.

A show is being prepared for next spring that will shed light on the almost causal relationship between state finances and social reform 200 years ago.

1806 Prussia is broke:
The defeat at the hands of Napoleonic France has brought the state to the brink of financial collapse. Reformers came to power, "invented" the participatory citizen to finance reparations and reforms and collided with the reality of the taxpayer. Using a wide range of exhibits, some of which are unpublished, the exhibition shows Prussia in a phase of upheaval in which the foundations for the modern image of the state
were laid in the long term.

"State bankruptcy! Bankrupt state?"
Financial reform and social change in Prussia after 1806
An exhibition at the Kunstbibliothek am Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz,
