During the next few years, the Dahlem Research Campus is being established in the museum district of Berlin-Dahlem. The Dahlem Research Campus represents an interdisciplinary collaboration among various collecting institutions of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) and external partners such as the Freie Universität Berlin and the Technische Universität Berlin. To mark the launch of the campus, the founding members have organized an open day on October 7 under the motto “It’s About Time.” From 2 p.m. on, the public is invited to visit the campus in Dahlem and find out about its many and varied activities.

In the course of the afternoon, visitors can participate in an exhibition workshop on the subject of “Time and Temporality” or develop their own visions for the Dahlem Research Campus and construct models of the future. Two workshops explore the relationship between time and the senses. Specifically, they try to answer the following questions: What does the sense of taste have to do with time? Has the smell of money changed over time? Some of the cooperation partners of the research campus will also introduce themselves, such as the Technische Universität with the project “Reconfiguring the Past.” In behind-the-scenes tours, visitors can discover the various stages of a restoration process, or learn more about current research projects in a Science Slam.

Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK, comments: “Things are getting moving in Dahlem. Together with a number of academic and extra-mural partners from the fields of research and scholarship, we are well on the way to establishing a research campus. With the day of activities on October 7, we are inviting visitors to play an active part and explore the prospects and opportunities of the research campus. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Prussian Cultural Heritage Board of Trustees, which is providing substantial support to the development of the research campus.”
