Museums close, libraries and archives open under certain conditions

The museums of the SPK cease to open for the public from Monday, November 2, 2020 until the end of the month – its archives and libraries remain open, subject to conditions
From Monday, November 2, 2020, until the end of the month, the SPK is no longer admitting members of the public to any of the museum buildings of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) on the Museumsinsel, at the Kulturforum and on the Charlottenburg and Dahlem premises. The Musikinstrumenten-Museum (Museum of Musical Instruments) will also be closed.
The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library), Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (Ibero-American Institute) and the Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Secret State Archives) remain open, subject to stringent hygiene requirements as announced. This also applies to the Kunstbibliothek (Art Library), Archäologisches Bibliothek (Archaeological Library) and the Zentralarchiv der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin (Central Archive of the National Museums in Berlin) and the Bibliothek des Staatlichen Instituts für Musikforschung (Library of the State Institute for Music Research).
The President of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Hermann Parzinger, explains its response to the corona crisis:
“The number of infections with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is also increasing exponentially in Berlin. The Federal Chancellor has agreed with the minister presidents of the states that “institutions and facilities that can be categorised as serving leisure purposes” will be closed. The Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz is complying with this decision.”
