Construction Projects
As the owner of many important buildings, the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz has been shaping the face of Berlin ever since it was set up. The development and preservation of its properties are one of its main concerns. Many of them are architecturally important historical monuments.
Prior to German reunification, it constructed a number of new buildings for its collections in West Berlin, for example, in Dahlem and at the Kulturforum. Since 1990, the Foundation has also been responsible for the historical museum and library buildings in what was formerly East Berlin. Many of its buildings are architecturally important landmarks. The renovation, expansion, and technological modernization of these buildings are central tasks for the Foundation.
The Foundation is the client for all of the construction projects for its institutions’ buildings. The Foundation’s budget for construction has been funded by the German government since 2002. The implementation of the specific projects is the responsibility of the Bundesamt für Bauwesen und Raumordnung (Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, BBR).
