The James Simon Gallery on the Museumsinsel in Berlin, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, has won an RIBA International Award for Excellence.

The awards, which are presented every two years, spotlight the most important and inspiring designs around the world. The recipients are selected in a rigorous judging process by a diverse panel of local ambassadors who visit each building under consideration. The works must set an example for design excellence and architectural ambition as well as making a significant social impact.

The main prize will be awarded to one of the prizewinning designs in November. The winners of the RIBA International Emerging Architect Prize and of the RIBA International Prize in 2021 will be selected by a jury chaired by French architect Odile Decq. They will be announced in November 2021.
