Parzinger: Iran still not issuing export permit for works of art – SPK committed to cultural dialogue

The exhibition “The Tehran Collection. The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Berlin” planned for the Gemäldegalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will not be able to take place as scheduled. As the President of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK), Hermann Parzinger, explained, the SPK has terminated the cooperation agreement with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Parzinger said: “The SPK has always attached great importance to the cultural dialogue between the Nationalgalerie and the Tehran Museum. The idea for this exhibition stemmed from both houses. It is with great regret that we have now felt forced to make this decision. It was necessary because Iran has as yet still not granted any export permit for the works of art. Further delays in planning the exhibition at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) were no longer acceptable. However, the SPK remains committed to cultural exchange, including with Iran, and will continue to encourage this dialogue via appropriate measures.”
