Sale of the Guelph Treasure in 1935

The Guelph Treasure is one of the most important collections of medieval ecclesiastical art. It has been subject to a restitution claim since 2008. In 2015, plaintiffs filed a lawsuit in the U.S. that SPK believes has no merit.

Restitutionsersuchen „Welfenschatz“

The Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) has dealt intensively with the circumstances of the purchase of the Welfenschatz in 1935. It has compiled numerous facts through extensive scientific research. The historical circumstances of the sale of the Welfenschatz have been presented to the claimants of the restitution in 2010 and also to the Beratende Kommission (Advisory Commission), which recommended in 2014 not to restitute the Guelph Treasure."
