EUBAM: Working Group on European Matters for Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Historical Preservation

EUBAM is an interministerial working group for European matters concerning libraries, archives, museums, and historical preservation. It addresses multidisciplinary questions about the approach to cultural heritage in Europe.

One of EUBAM’s tasks is to develop strategies for libraries, archives, and museums that they can use to improve access to scientific and cultural content. In addition, the working group supports the development of multidisciplinary structures for cooperation and information exchange with EU bodies. It focuses German interests in the run-up to the planning of EU grants programs and represents them in EU bodies. EUBAM operates the web portal Kulturerbe digital. The portal provides information on projects to digitize cultural assets in Germany.

The working group is composed of representatives from the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation), the federal and state governments of Germany, and experts from all the fields represented. The chairman of the working group is Hermann Parzinger, the president of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultual Heritage Foundation). The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library) and the Institut für Museumsforschung (Institute for Museum Research) of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) form one administrative office each for EUBAM’s office.
