AthenaPlus

AthenaPlus is a network of institutions from the EU member states. It is intended to supplement Europeana by providing additional inventories of digital content and developing creative possibilities for the use of digital content.

AthenaPlus aims to improve standards for the publication of cultural content in portals and hence to simplify data delivery to Europeana. AthenaPlus will provide additional data to Europeana. In addition, the network studies various scenarios for the creative use of digital cultural content.

The project group began work in March 2013 and will continue until 2015. The Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) is represented by the Institut für Museumsforschung (Institut for Museum Research), which belongs to the project’s management team.

AthenaPlus grew out of the European network ATHENA: Access to Cultural Heritage Networks across Europe. This network of twenty EU member states as well as Israel, Russia, and Azerbaijan was in operation from 2008 to 2011. It contributed around four million data sets to the Europeana portal.
