Press release from 09/25/2025

Topping-out ceremony on 17 October 2025 with Minister of State for Culture Weimer - Visitor days in the shell on 18 and 19 October 2025

berlin modern, a new building for 20th century art, is being constructed at the Kulturforum according to plans by renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron. Since the foundation stone was laid in February 2024, berlin modern has grown out of the excavation pit and reached a height of 18 metres. To mark the occasion, the topping-out ceremony will be celebrated on 17 October 2025 in the presence of Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer.

Note for representatives of the press: An invitation with registration for the topping-out ceremony and press tours will be sent separately.

The largely completed shell of berlin modern will open its doors to the public on 18 and 19 October 2025. For the first time, visitors will be able to gain an impression of the spacious building designed by Herzog & de Meuron and the future exhibition spaces of the Neue Nationalgalerie. Display boards and guides will provide information about berlin modern and the exhibition concept as part of an open tour. On both days, the thirty-minute performance "Mirror Piece" by Joan Jonas will take place twice in the entrance area of the building.
