What did you do on your first day at work?

On the first day, we spent plenty of time talking to those of our coworkers who weren’t on vacation, working from home, or self-isolating. We also took a thorough tour of the building. Previously, we had always experienced Hamburger Bahnhof from the viewpoint of a visitor, so this was a new perspective.

What is the biggest item on your to-do list as you take up this new position?

The most pressing question concerns the buildings themselves. As many of your readers will know, there are basic ownership issues concerning the Rieckhallen and the historical building that need to be settled, and there is also urgent renovation work that has to be planned and carried out.

What is the first goal that you want to work towards over the medium term?

As one of Germany’s most important museums of contemporary art and one of the three pillars of the National Gallery, Hamburger Bahnhof is dedicated to the collection of twenty-first-century art. We want to raise the museum’s profile as an institution that promotes and supports global, contemporary artistic output in Berlin and that takes stands on relevant issues in a time of social change.
