On June 15, a meeting of the BR50 interest group Internationales (International Affairs) took place at the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (Ibero-American Institute). The BR50 consortium brings together many different research institutions from the social sciences, humanities, life sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technology. One of them is the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation).

Berlin has a multi-faceted landscape of institutions working in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and the humanities, and BR50 is making use of that potential to promote research and the pursuit of scientific insights, scholarship, and knowledge in the humanistic disciplines. Together with universities, Brandenburg-based research institutions and the general public, BR50 is working to position the Berlin-Brandenburg region as one of the leading European metropolitan centers in the fields of science, scholarship, higher education and development.

The interest group Internationales serves as a forum for exchange on any issue related to internationalization. The central topic of the meeting at the IAI was the Oxford-Berlin Research Partnership. The partnership was introduced by Professor Çiğdem İşsever, who is serving as academic director for cooperation between the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) and the University of Oxford. The agenda also included a discussion of future collaboration between BR50 and the BUA, as well as the presentation of the results of a survey of Berlin’s research institutions with regard to international visitors and international cooperation.
