At the invitation of Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller and President of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) Hermann Parzinger, several minister presidents of the federal states visited the Neue Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) on June 25, 2021. This will be officially opened in the summer after around six years of refurbishment work.

The heads of government present were Volker Bouffier (Minister President of Hesse), Andreas Bovenschulte (Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen), Malu Dreyer (Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate), Tobias Hans (Minister President of Saarland), Reiner Haseloff (Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt), Winfried Kretschmann (Minister President of Baden-Württemberg), Bodo Ramelow (Minister President of the Free State of Thuringia), Manuela Schwesig (Minister President of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and Peter Tschentscher (First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg).

After several years of repair and refurbishment work planned and supervised by David Chipperfield Architects, the Neue Nationalgalerie reopens in August with a new presentation of the collection and an exhibition of work by Alexander Calder. The Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz is supported by all sixteen states and the federal government; the construction work is financed solely from federal funds. Hermann Parzinger took the visit as an opportunity to thank the federal states for their commitment to the work of the Foundation.
