With Reclining Lion by the sculptor August Gaul, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is placing a reminder of the expropriation of the art collection of publisher and art patron Rudolf Mosse (1843–1920) in a central position of the James-Simon-Galerie. The sculpture formed part of the Lachmann-Mosse family’s art collection, which was confiscated by the Nazis.
