Equal Treatment and Equal Opportunity

Equal treatment of men and women at the workplace is a particular concern of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation). It is implemented on all levels of the organization using a variety of instruments.

Any measures taken to promote gender equality and equal opportunity are governed by federal regulations on public-sector employment and the Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz (General Law on Equal Treatment, AGG) .

As a member of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation, DFG), the Foundation is obliged to follow the Research-Oriented Standards of Gender Equality formulated by the DFG’s member institutions. The standards are intended to ensure equal opportunity for women with a career at a university or other research institute.

The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library) participates in Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day. Both were initiated by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth and take place annually in April. These events offer young people insight into careers at the Staatsbibliothek.

The Foundation also ensures equality of opportunity for people from different cultural backgrounds, age groups and qualifications as well as people with special needs. It helps its employees adapt their work conditions to their living situation.
